Book: Warriors Don't Cry
Author Melba Pattillo Beals was one of the Little Rock Nine, a group of nine high school students who, in 1957, integrated Central High School in Little Rock Arkansas as a result of Brown vs. Board of Education. Brown vs. Board of Education was the 1954 landmark United States Supreme Court case in which the Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students unconstitutional. Author Beals also wrote an abridged version of her book, also titled Warriors Don’t Cry, for middle and high school students.
